Jobsuchen ist mir gelungen.
I’m not sure why I felt like writing that in German. But yes I have a job now yay. I went in this afternoon for some introductions and a bit of basic training, and then I start properly on Monday morning! I’m excited!
The job is working for the Halifax at their Dean Clough quarters, where I do admin type work in a team of people. It’s a bit of a fluke how I managed to land myself the job…
I went into town on Wednesday to hand round my newly pimped up CV (thanks to Bob) to try and find a job. I’m getting bored sitting at home doing nothing during the day and I’m running out of money fast. I wasn’t looking for any particular job. Anything which will give me money. I went to a couple of shop places for a chat but nowhere was really looking. I had just left Marks & Spencers when, by a bit of a coincidence, I ran straight into Lucy! I hadn’t seen her in a while so we stood talking for ages, though was pretty strange to be seeing her in Halifax I msut say, seen as she moved to Leeds a few weeks ago and all. But tis always lovely to see her.
Then who should walk past, but Helen and her sister Jenny. They stop and say hi, and I mention my quest of CV handing-out to find a job. Then Jenny immediately says, “do you want to take over my job as I’m going back to uni?” Helen had mentioned this job before, but said that she would be replacing Jenny, as she was in the same boat as me, looking for a job for the gap year. But apparantly Helen landed herself another job, still at Dean Clough but in a different department, so they were looking for someone to take over Jenny’s job! So yeah, I give Jenny my CV and she says she’ll get me an interview and recommend me haha.
Long story short, I didn’t need an interview, I went in on Thursday for a “chat” but it was mainly filling in forms about personal details, and I went to my new place of work today, Friday afternoon, for some introductions! I met my new “colleagues” haha, and my new boss Mark, and Jenny showed me through a lot of the tasks she does. Was a lot to take in, but it seems quite straightforward, I hope I get the hang of it quite quickly, though at the start I’ll be pretty slow while I figure it all out.
So yeah that’s that. I start this morning and work a 7 hour day, starting and finishing when I please. The best thing about this job (apart from the money mmm) is that Helen is here, working a similar job but in a different department 2 floors up. It’s good to have someone you know quite well when you’re starting off I think, when I get stuck I’ll be ringing/emailing her! It’s nice to have a friendly face.
And on a final note, the offices are very stylishly cool and the building has lifts which are glass and go on the OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING!!!1 I can see myself never ever using the stairs there, even if they are nearer to my desk.
