Hmm now I feel bad for such a sad entry yesterday.

I feel so much better today. Having some photo-taking inspiration related problems but all in all I feel happy again.

The Prestige vs The Illusionist (and other thoughts)

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

I used to never be able to get to sleep without music. I would lie in bed with my mp3 player in my hand (and earphones in obviously) until I fell asleep, then I’d wake up sometime in the night, unplug it and put it on my desk and fall right back to sleep. Now I can’t get to sleep unless it’s silent. Or pretty quiet anyhow.

I finally watched The Prestige last night, after having it on DVD for ages and wanting to see it for ages and everyone telling me how good it was for ages. I saw The Illusionist in the cinema months ago, and loved it. And The Prestige? It was alright, but that’s it I’m afraid. The Illusionist was a far better produced, written, managed, and presented film. The story was better, the characters were better, the twist was better, the photography and filming (mmm sepia landscapes) was much better!

The Prestige was great, don’t get me wrong, but I did not like the… urgh I can’t really say this without adding a spoiler. Erm let’s just say… I did not like the twist concerning Hugh Jackman’s character. if you’ve seen it you’ll know what I’m on about! Christian Bale was GOOD, but yeah, Hugh Jackman, I’m disappointed.

Thus, The Illusionist wins, by far.

That was last night.

Today was one of those days :(

There are a few reasons why I’m so hopeless at this.

1. I cannot run and jump simultaneously
2. I depend on the FLOWER POWER
3. I get scared when a bobomb/koopa comes near me

Thing is, this is my perfect game. It’s just my kind of game, and I love it. This is exactly the kind of thing I want in a game.

And yet, I suck.

Well, I kept my word…

A while ago I had the idea of learning Dutch. And after a few weeks of struggling along by asking Uka or Cabby for random words on msn etc, I thought, ‘this really isn’t working. If I’m going to learn Dutch, I’m going to do it properly.’

To me, there is only one way of learning a language, which is to teach yourself. Sure, you can study at school and take a course in it, but at the end of the day, no matter how good a teacher you have for the subject, it’s down to self discipline and making the effort yourself.

I don’t know what it is about them, I just really enjoy learning languages.
