Weekend in London - Day 2

December 15th, 2007 by alice

On Saturday, Day 2 of my weekend in London, lots of things went wrong. Lots of good things happened as well, and I had a great day, but y’know, things didn’t go exactly as planned…

We were due to meet Max and co in central London at 2pm. Now, okay, 2pm isn’t exactly the crack of dawn, but we had gone to sleep about 4 or 5am, me and Bob were exhausted from a week of work, and we had a full breakfast to cook and eat before we could set off! We got up maybe half 10, 11ish, Bob and Stu battled it out on Smash Bros while I feel asleep again on the sofa. They dragged Kazzie out of bed about 12, and we set to cooking brekkie. I think we only finished eating about 2pm haha.

Blee rang Stu to see where we were, and by this point we were feeling a bit guilty, so Stu said we were just getting to the station, but was consciously vague about which station. We cleaned up and tidied up the front room, I packed my stuff and straightened my hair, and then we were off!

Inn drove this time, parked at the shopping centre from last night, and we went inside. The plan was to be sneaky and buy Stu a DS Lite when he wasn’t looking, which proved difficult. Kazzie led him into Claires Accessories with me and Inn following, while Bob went to Game next door and bought the DS. We were having a hard time ad libbing and pretending to be looking for something in there. I’m not the greatest actress…

Stu was getting seriously annoyed though haha, we were horrifically (and not even fashionably) late as it was, and I guess it seemed to him we were just wasting more time looking for something in the shop! Wasn’t too long before Bob came back though having purchased the DS, so all was good, and we headed to Brent Cross tube station. Mmm oyster card.

Can’t really remember the next bits, was just on the underground anyway. We went to Oxford St and by this time it was about half 3ish, so was getting dark already. Just our luck it had started to tip it down as well, and Oxford St was jam-packed full of Xmas shoppers. The roads were closed for vehicles, but just became filled with people instead. Stopped raining though :)

We went off to the magical Funland I had heard so much about but never actually been to. It was huge, if Bob had let go of my hand I would probably have got horribly lost in there. We met Max, Aino, Blee, James and other (Beast) Bob there, and went for a spin on the dodgems (only I got in the same one with Bob), leaving all our millions of bags etc with Beast Bob to look after.

After that we headed to the restaurant Max had booked us in for. A tapas place called La Tasca. Ah.

It was a great atmosphere. We gave Stu his birthday card and pressie, and I think, judging by his reaction, he liked the DS hehe. Only trouble now was that he needed an M3 ;)

We ordered way too much food/drink. Actually I think the drink was okay, we had four thingies of sangria,, between eight of us. It was yummy nice, so that’s like £6 each for half a litre. I was cool with that to be honest. The food we definitely ordered too much of. Tapas first course and then paellas to follow. It was yummy, but too much. Should have cut back on paellas.

Hmm, then we got to the bill at the end haha. Welllll I justify it by saying there was 10 of us, which meant they auto-added a 10% service charge (making it look so much more, though in actual fact you should always leave 10% anyway, so that made no difference), plus £50 on sangria, leaving us with about £130 on food. So technically £13 each for food. And it was a yummy meal, great service, lots of it etc etc. Overall it was more than I was expecting, but hey ho, what can you do. I mean there was these awkward silences and a lot of calculations because some people ordered different things as well etc etc. It is nice to be in the position I’m in now where money isn’t really an issue when it comes to stuff. Okay so technically this is £20 each for a meal, but that’s a couple of courses (a lot of food, those paellas were huuge), plus a lot of drinks. Plus 10% (inc in the 20 quid). To be honest I think that’s reasonable.

I don’t know how me and Bob ended up paying about £60 between us though. I felt bad because collectively we still seemed to be short of the total, so Bob put in more money and so did I. But he made me take mine back cos it’s stupid us paying 70 quid for a £40 meal (for us both).

Hmm tension. We scraped it together in the end but it put a downer on the mood no doubt. I think we’ll all just go back to Nando’s next time :P

Anyyyhow, we left the restaurant and headed along the shopping streets again. Stu was apologising to Kazzie for yelling when she dragged him into Claires so Bob could buy the DS haha. Blee bought some sushi (after all that paella?!) and we stopped briefly in Game.

Then we headed into a nearby Starbucks and sat down for some DS action: Stu was eager to play his, (download play of course haha, seen as he didn’t have any games :P) so we had some tetris and brain training battles.

Some time later Blee and James left, and then Max and Aino. Us remaining souls decided to go home/wherever we were staying as well. Was about 10 I think? Anyhow, Inn was dropping Kazzie back home and then driving back to her house, ready for work the next morning, Stu was going home that night as well, Beast Bob was… doing something… going back to uni maybe? Not sure haha. And I was going to Bob’s :) (and so was he, obviously, might be a bit strange if I stayed at his house without him).

Can’t remember where we parted ways, but it wasn’t before long. Me and Bob then hopped on a tube (not literally) to his stop, and then walked a short way to his home :D

And that was that. Another day done :)

My boyfriend is yummy.
