Weekend in London - Day 3

December 31st, 2007 by alice

And Day 3 :)

After the last 2 days of rushing around and keeping busy and all, it was nice to spend today relaxing and unwinding. We were meeting up with Bob’s friends Jason and Rachel today for some yum yum dim sum in town in the afternoon, which would be cool no doubt. I craved this food.

We had a lazy morning. Neither of us felt like getting up early, and I kept doing the whole microsleeps thing, you wake up for a minute or so, then go back to sleep again immediately, and again, and again. Eventually we crawled out of bed a little after 12pm, mainly cos we realised we were due to be meeting Jason and Rachel at 1pm haha. Rush. But luckily y’know, we’re not the kind of people who spend aaages getting ready. Well, not too long anyhow.

As it happens we were slightly late, but we were still there first. We met them at East Putney station and it was chucking it down (again). We didn’t linger and went straight to the restaurant, the Royal China. I guess it’s a good sign when a restaurant has a slight queue of people inside waiting for tables. Fortunately it wasn’t so long that it extended outside in the cold and rain, and despite the slight queue, we didn’t have to wait long at all for a table either. We got a nice round one with a parachuting Santa above it :)

The food there was amazing! I didn’t take my camera, bit antisocial and stuff, but god it was all immense. We ordered tea to start with while we looked at menus, and shortly after a guy came round with a tray showing today’s special dishes. One of them was a deep fried squid dish, it looked pretty nice so we took it. And hell yes it was nice! It was weird, it was like these tiny little squids, whole ones, with all their tentacles still perfectly intact and all, and they looked kinda creepy cos you could see each thingy on the tentacles. You know, those round bits for gripping on? Weird! But they tasted so nice. I was a little wary at first, but I took a small bite and they were just so tasty.

We ordered overall about 16 dishes from the dim sum menu, all for sharing and stuff so it was cool. Everything was so delicious and fresh and tasty. I absolutely loved it. We had a lot of prawn dishes mmm. The place reminded me of Lucky Dragon, only fancier and nicer hehe. It was good to meet Jason and Rachel, and they were really nice and friendly.
We lingered in the restaurant after finishing eating for a bit. Bob wanted to order a main course to get the free orange slices at the end of the meal, but we were all way too full (or I know I was anyway…) to eat anything else. Instead we just stayed and chatted.

After a bit we paid up and left to go elsewheres. It had stopped raining by now so that was good, and we went into a nearby shopping centre for a walk round in the warmth, and Jason and Bob reminisced about their time at high school and how they’d always come here. I always find it really nice to hear about memories.

Back out on the street (haha that sounds wrong) we went in a couple more shops, before finally heading off to the Natural Cafe for a drink. It was nice and cosy and warm in there, and we got some hot drinks to warm us up more. Jason also bought Bob an orange because he missed out on the free ones at the restaurant hehe.

We stayed there til 5 (I think) when it closed, and then we parted ways. Me and Bob took a bus home this time instead of the tube, and before long we were back in his house. Bob cooked some yummy food while I played Katamari, that game is addictive! I can see why Bob likes it so much, it’s so much fun!

And yeah, that was that, another day done :) Last day tomorrow :(
