43 things
Wednesday, January 30th, 2008I changed around my 43 things a little bit, some stuff needed updating.
I crossed off ‘kiss in the rain’ and in a couple of weeks will be able to cross off ‘have a valentine’. What else? I left ‘wear more skirts’ on there as a reminder that not only do I need to wear more skirts I also need to buy more. I took off the silly ones about publishing photography, cos in all honesty I don’t really care about getting published anymore. And I do have 3 photos up on the wall at Clare College, Cambridge, so mebbe that counts anyway? Haha.
I left on ‘learn Dutch’ cos I can’t take it down til I am confident enough I can get by. In a few months ‘live in France’ will be ticked, and that’s probably all there is for that.
I added one to watch all the DVDs I buy and never watch. The list is as follows:
- A Very Long Engagement
- Pride & Prejudice
- Tailor of Panama
- Princess Mononoke
- Only Yesterday
- Martha, Martha
- The Squid & The Whale
- Memoirs Of A Geisha
- Schindler’s List
- Battle Royale
- Spaced
- Brick
Hmm not as long as I thought it would be ![]()
Christmas 2007
Sunday, January 27th, 2008Hmm bit delayed but better late than never.
Just a quick ramble about Christmas.
Edit: okay maybe not that short…
I realised
Sunday, January 27th, 2008That I have not played my oboe properly in about two and a half years. To be fair, for two of those years it was impossible for me to do so, thanks to my brace, but I got that off last May and since then I’ve only played a couple of times, and my heart has not been in it.
I was thinking last night what a shame it was. A £1000 instrument I actually have a skill at playing and I’m letting it go to waste? Screw that, I’m playing it again.
My iPod quiz tells me it’s the hardest wind instrument to play. I can believe that.
London time (January 10th - 14th)
Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008Right so I spent last weekend the weekend before last in London with the lovely Bob. I say weekend, it was more of a longgg weekend. I went down on Thursday night, straight after work, and came back Monday daytime. So really, that’s 5 days I got to see him for!
I’m not going to blog out each day as before because it is: a) rather tiresome; and b) not that interesting. Instead I’ll do an overview of what we managed to get up to. Nice and succinct.
Here I am sitting on a stone thing in a pond outside the Barbican.
All the latest toughs, you’ve got to shrug them off, or shut them off.
Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008Look, though, I don’t know what notes you want to hear played, I can’t think what lines you’d like me to sing or say, and I’m not sure what subjects you want mentioned. So pause and add your own intentions. We’ve included a form you can print out and fill out and send below:

All the latest toughs, well, we have seen that stuff, and we have seen enough blood in dying coughs, which means that we have lost. We have lost, and if you’re crying to be tossed they’ll toss you down the oubliette with all the old things that you let yourself forget because you’d like to love a star who’d throw you down below the ground he thinks you are.
I LOVE Okkervil River.
Appendicitis? San Francisco?
Monday, January 21st, 2008I couldn’t sleep for ages last night. I was quite tired but I had so much on my mind that I couldn’t drift off. First I was thinking about Bob going to New York tomorrow (today) and how much of an amazing time he will have, and then I was thinking of my own travel plans, and I tried to arrange some things in my head, where I’d go, what I’d see. Then I started trying to remember some Dutch vocab I’d read recently, but midnight on a Sunday night in bed isn’t the best time for that I guess.
And when I did eventually drift off I had the weirdest dream ever.
I dreamt I was starring in a new movie, and we had just got started with the filming when I had appendicitis. I was rushed to hospital and stayed there for a week while I was treated. I had no anesthetic and I watched as they cut me open and removed my appendix.
I left the hospital on a Saturday, and when I got home my mum explained that as a celebration we were going out on the Sunday for a meal. I asked where and she said San Francisco. We would fly out early morning, have a meal in Chinatown in SF and then fly back in the evening. I was so confused.
And we did, we went to San Francisco and I collapsed on the plane, because I wasn’t really meant to fly straight after surgery.
I was rushed straight back to hospital and I woke up at 6am to the sound of the Steel Samurai (my alarm) crying because you can die from appendicitis.
