Berlin gefällt mir (and how its my halfway mark)
Yes, Berlin gefällt mir sehr.
That means I like Berlin very much. I think I want to live here. I really do.
Its such a fantastic city. I thought I wanted to live in Paris, and yes, maybe I still do, but I have a stronger feeling about Berlin. Everything is just so phenomenal here. This is one of the biggest cities in the whole of Europe… but its only really 18 years old… JUST LIKE ME LOL.
Anyway, I absolutely love it here. This is one of my favourite stops so far. Ive done a lot of nice touristy stuff, like the Reichstag, the Dom, the Brandenburg Tor (though yeah theres not much to do there, go, see it, take a photo, and done!), Alexanderplatz, Checkpoint Charlie, Holocaust Memorial etc etc. Ive also been to the zoo to see KNUT yay, and today I was interviewed for the Berlin newspaper. Its all so much fun!
I love speaking German and I love hearing other people speak German. Ooh yeah, and today, its my halfway point. Yup. Been away 31 days, back in another 31 days. Tomorrow is my last full day in Berlin, then I go to Prague. Im excited about that, but also a bit nervous because I am in the middle of A Big Disaster.
This Big Disaster is not about being mugged or beaten up or kidnapped, because they qualify as Ridiculously Enormous Disasters, rather than just a Big Disaster. My Big Disaster is not about getting lost or losing all my money and or passport, because they qualify as Significant And Unfortunate Disasters.
My Big Disaster is that I am pretty much unable to walk, without being in consideration pain.
I depend on walking. Ive been walking everywhere on this travelling adventure (except like, from city to city, then I get the train). For one thing Im scared of foreign public transport systems, except trains, trains are nice and simple. But like buses, and Metros. I cant work them. And Im only in most cities for a couple of days, its simpler (and cheaper!) to simply not bother try to work it out and just walk it. Plus yknow, good excersise, healthy and all etc.
And so far so good. The weathers been great so its always been pleasant walking. I always have a map so I know where I am etc. Its all good.
Up til now.
I dunno what Ive done to it. My legs ached a bit from day one, I mean, all this walking all of a sudden is quite hard to immediately get used to. But in Paris in particular, my left foot was hurting more than usual, whereas my right has accustomed itself to walking so much. And now, more than a week later, in Berlin, Im in quite a lot of pain. My ankle is quite bruised, though not swollen (I dont think) and everytime I so much as move a toe, I get a shock of pain. I can walk, I have been doing all today heh, but every step is pretty damn painful. But I HAVE TO walk. I dont have another option. Although that said, I have used the U- and S-Bahn system here in Berlin and its nice and simple, for once hehe.
Anyway, I prefer to walk, yes, even if it hurts. My hostel is about 4km from the centre of Berlin. So far everyday I walk there in the morning and back in the evening
And I havent seen a hospital marked on the map so I dunno where to go, if I were to go. I dont think I would anyway. Itll get better. I only worry a tiny bit because my next stop is Prague and I dont speak, or understand, a single word of Czech, so if it suddenly worsens I wont be able to find a hospital there at all. But I quickly go to Vienna afterwards, so yknow. Its all good.
Anyway, I love Berlin and I want to move here.
